Storage Crate is a container added by Better Storage. It is used to store items in a different fashion than Chests or Reinforced Chests, and are intended for bulk storage.
Each Storage Crate has 18 slots but they link their inventory with all other adjacent Storage Crate blocks. This type of storage is not kept organized like other chests. Each time a player opens a Storage Crate, a randomized selection of the content items will be shown, up to a double chest's amount. You can shift-click more items in, even if there's no empty slots visible in the interface, as long as there's still capacity. A small capacity bar at the top right shows you how full the combined Storage Crate pile is. Storage Crates have to be placed together so as to form a generally cubic shape. This prevents them from being used as an item elevator. If you are unable to place a Storage Crate next to an existing one, it means the configuration is a shape that isn't allowed. To get a valid shape, you may have to expand the crate in a different direction first.
Storage Crates will not work well with automation, as most other items and blocks in Minecraft do not consider the Storage Crate to be a container item, and thus, will not work with them. This means Hoppers and Void Satchels cannot interact with Storage Crates and Inventory Tweaks do not work.
